8N sleeve best install tips

Hello, I have a '47 8N that needs sleeves. what is the best method to get the new ones in? it has the .090 sleeves. any sneaky tips? thanks in advance
 

i put mine in my chest freezer overnight (0 degrees F) and they dropped in with no fuss. but there's another thread from someone who wasn't so lucky...
 
On a Farmall M I had good luck with the chest freezer. I put a heat lamp from my brooder house in each empty cylinder for a couple of hours. I had to do two taps with a wood block to seat them all of the way. Take them out of the freezer one at a time and put them right in.
 
Joe,Notjustair's way has always worked foe me is the same way that I have installed dry sleeves for years with great results. Check the fit at room temperature first,all to tight then I use a ball hone just to clean up the walls,freeze the sleeves and put a heat lamp on the block.Once hot I oil the bores good with oil and shop towel,then put the sleeves in one at a time.

If the fit of the sleeve to block bore is correct (.0005"/.0015" interference) the .090 wall sleeves can be carefully driven or pressed in with little to no fuss. The .040 wall sleeves are a different animal.

Thanks all for the refresher. it's been years since I have installed sleeves. I had forgotten about heating the bore prior to putting in the sleeve. the last sleeve I put in was in a race engine in '76, and we used dry ice to freeze the sleeve. I had forgotten that we warmed the block. thank you again!
 
I do some work on KOHLER engines that have sleeved engines. I took an old Coleman ice chest and use dry ice to make the sleeves really cold. Liq. CO2.

I got in a lot of mom's type of trouble when I was just a lad. I would forget (anxious, I guess) to replace some of the homemade food back into the freezer.

So, that night's supper was turkey., instead of our daily MUSH (fried). :)
