Re: Finally Got my Live Hydraulics installed on the 8N

(quoted from post at 10:01:45 08/09/16) What are they going to use the tractor for?

Been to long ago to remember for sure but I suspect a hydraulic top link was one of the items on his list. It's a common request.

ot for anything like I do or those hoses would be torn off the first day!

Snagged by brush? The couplers are on a breakaway bracket but if you catch the hoses the valve is a gonner

Just thinking out loud here.
But rather than adapt your N to give it live
hydraulics, why not consider a newer
tractor?
Take a look at the tractor I posted about
this morning. It's an 860. That means it
would not only have factory live hyd but it
also would have live pto. It is a heckuvalot
more tractor on a platform not much bigger
than an N.

While I tell every customer that your 860 does not have dual DA remotes and it won't be cheap to add them. If asked I would suggest a much newer tractor - not necessarily a Ford ;-)

It's about $400 to buy a used dual DA remote for a 55-83 a Ford.
As was discussed here the other day, Yes your Kubotas are better.
But what do they cost compared to that $2200 860 I posted the link to this morning?
That tractor is well within the budget of most N owners.

I wasn't necessarily suggesting a Kubota or anything costing what you are suggesting. I don't recall the exact number but if all we are concerned about is price Greywolf's setup cost him ~$700 which included the pump, valve, and all of the plumbing. Of course it's still "just an 8N" with live hydraulics and dual remotes ;-)

Live hydraulic on a N is hard to beat till you can do better. :)

I have a 91 - 92 Mitsubishi truck power steering pump that has a line in and a line out with no tank I want to plumb into the test port so I can slowly pick up the mower at start up and drive away without spinning the blade . The whole hydraulic system is being cleaned and rebuilt so I want the pump more for the passive filtration system . I figure I can respectfully cobble a small system for $100 including the filter .

I use my live hydraulics so I can pick up a shredder without turning on the PTO. It also helps with box blading. You can pick up the blade with the clutch still depressed.

I looked at adding rear remotes but have held off as I am looking into getting a Branson 3010.

I have designed but not built a live pto. It has been done before. It's called a peeing dog live pto.

It consists of a small wheel and tire from a wheel barrow that has an arm that pivots on the right rear axle and goes from the end of the lift arm to
the small wheel which is about a foot in front of the rear wheel.

When you raise the lift arms it lifts the long bar that pivots on the rear axle housing and causes the small wheel to contact the ground raising the
right rear wheel off the ground causing the tractor to stop and the tractor wheel to rotate.

Wish we had one back in the early 50s baling hay with an IH PTO driven baler.
