I just picked up this '43 2n yesterday That earned it's keep in a boatyard south of Philadelphia, Pa, winching boats out of the Delaware
river. The winch is a 10,000 lb PTO barden winch. It's been sitting for about 10 years since the boatyard closed.

Looks like you don't have to worry about getting stuck ;-)

heck of a tow rig, and will make a great log skidder, i like the rope drum on the side, you just dont see those on newer winches

Yes it will help with my logging operation but I think my elenco is better equipped to handle it then the 2n.

How on earth did they keep the tractor in place, guessing it simply was power and transportation for the winch and was anchored by something else in front when pulling

Kirk-NJ,Cool set up,just wondering if it has some kind of reverser transmission from the PTO or does it just disengage the spool to let the cable out?It also looks like it was operated standing beside it with the clutch bent up like that and winch brake lever so it could be operated by hand, and that wouldn't be to safe a place to be standing. Can you read the SN on the block?

Best I can figure it's a '43 still has the hole for the chock it the dogleg. Engine block is no help cause it's a '49 8n block

Chain that front end to a tree, like we did with our winch trucks.

The sight of that winch brings back memories, not all of them good. We used to chain air tuggers to columns on the ground and run the cable through snatch blocks here and there and then up to elevated pipe galleys where we strung out hundreds of feet of big pipe. Glad those days are over.
