8N purchase records?

Hi All,

My Grandad and his two brothers used to own adjoining farms here in Missouri. My Grandad sold his place and moved to the city in 1961.

Recently, I inherited my great-uncle's 1949 8N and am in the process of restoring it. When done, I hope to begin restoring my other great-uncles 1953 Jubilee. They were both used everyday for over 40 years
and have sat in a field for the last 20. Needless to say, I'm very excited to have them fully restored sitting side-by-side. My Grandad also owned an 8N and that leads me to my question.

Would there be any way to track down the sales records and determine the serial number of the exact tractor he bought? I'm entertaining the idea of going on one of those life-long hunts for it.

Any advice you all can provide as to how to identify his exact tractor would be greatly appreciated!

hi david, welcome to YT.

no idea on sales records, but u should be able to see the serial numbers yourself. a wire wheel is often needed.

john smith's old ford tractor ID page will show u what to look for :)

Tractors are one of the few things Missouri don't require a title for. If they did your hunt would be easier.
Thats going to be a hard hunt to take on. Asked if anyone might remember who bought from him.
There's not going to be no paper trail.
My Grand Father sold his 'Red E' around Bonne Terre in the late '60s. Wish I could find it.
Whats a Red E?

ive never heard of ford having records of sales to individuals, and the problem with fords is the dealers who sold the original tractors are gone mostly so there is no way to possibly find their records , n's get bought and sold several times in their lives, and now a lot of those people are no longer alive, unless his N had some type of unusual equipment on it or some type of unusual repair or feature not easily painted over or changed, that would make it stand out you may have to just do one that will stand in for his

Actually they did have a "Owner Registration" in some cases anyway. Here's mine.

Yes, Mo doesn't keep ser numbers for tractors, but some county's have the numbers on the personal tax records. Mom used to work in the court house and I have seen the card file that listed Dads tractors and the ser numbers.(Late 1960s)

I believe that I read the registrations were stored in a box trail at Ford and they were destroyed some form of accident .
