oil pan gasket installation- 9n

Does the gasket need to be fitted at the rear, between the rope seals? This gasket looks to be 1/16th of an inch to long, or do you lay it in place lay the pan over it an let it crush together?

It is not meant to be.
Carefully trim gasket to butt against rope seal.
Rope seal should protrude slightly above the deck surface where the gasket sits.
The rope half ends must compress together with only rope to rope.

You trim the rope seal flush its about impossible to trim it flush some will protruded. DO NOT TRIM THE GASKET IT FITS BETWEEN THE ROPE SEAL AND BUTTS AGAIN THE CRANK.

There is a really good write up with pictures on the other "N" site, under the "how to section" under the engine rebuild section. I have used it twice and have had no problem. I don't think we are allowed to post a link to it. About the same as Greg (2N) TX, but with pictures.
