Ive got a 8n that I bought on a sale a few years ago. When I got it home I discovered that the 3 point will raise but not lower. I took off the left hand inspection cover and drained the oil and found the exhaust valve. When I pushed on the exhaust valve the 3 point went down. The hitch would not lower even with any wieght on it until I pushed on the exhaust valve. I have tried adjusting the quadrant valve but that didnt do anything and glancing up at the linkage I couldnt seen anything that was out of place. Is there a possibility that I have a stuck exhaust valve?

possibly, but you would have probably felt it. Possibly linkage. Spring that pushes intake valve out also supplies the force to push exhaust valve in.

Jesse knows a lot more than me about old tractors but I can offer my experience. Mine acted the same way and I, based on input from BruceVA, dropped the pump, disassembled it and cleaned the valves with newspaper and cloth until they slid in smoothly. I also replaced the pressure relief valve. That's been about 3 years ago or so and I would do it all over again. My pump was filled with crud. Hope this helps.

Stuck valve/s or a broken intake valve return spring.

Drain all the oil and clean out the lift sump area around the pump with diesel or kerosene. I use a garden sprayer till fuel runs clear.

This might fix it without doing any major repair.
