I have a 1953 ford 8n with a Dearborn loader, with a front mount hydraulic pump. I'm having issues with the loader only going half way up. I had both lift cylinders rebuilt and still have same issue. Not sure if its a pump issue or hydraulic control lever issue. I don`t have any hydraulic leaks. Do they make a rebuild kit for pump or hydraulic control lever? Any help would be appreciated.

There are many pumps & many control valves, so the first step would be to identify what you are looking to find parts for. How is fluid level?
P.S. Not an 8N if 1953

I believe its a vickers vane pump an it`s a dual control valve. I didn`t see any name or numbers on either one an i was told it was a 53 or 54 8n when i bought it. Dearborn loader model 19-61

Does it start chattering half way up?? Does it go all the way up without a load?

Chattering is low oil. Geometry changes ( you loose lever arm) as you go up and it may not take a full load all the way up.

"my guess would be the PO would have gotten the year wrong sooner than the model."

ok, maybe not the best of wording there...

my guess would be the PO would be more likely to get the year wrong than the model.

Yes it chatters when it gets halfway up an doesn`t go any farther up. I had water in hydraulic oil so i drained oil and flushed hydraulics and put fresh hyd oil in filled to top raised bucket as far as it would go and added more oil still not going up all the way. Maybe i`ll have to manually lift loader to its highest level and then add more oil.

I went to a farm auction because of a tractor that was advertised as a 1953 9N Jubilee. It was a 1953 Golden Jubilee.

Was talking to someone about N tractors. She mentioned that she had a 9N that her father bought new in 1947. We talked a bit about the model changes from 9N to 2N to 8N. After that, she said she was going to have to check in to it a bit further.

Lots of people don't know what the various models are.

I have to ask, where are you adding the oil?

Quit guessing and speculating. Hydraulics work on pressure. Buy a $20 gauge and measure the hydraulic pressure you are getting. If the pressure is low (less than 1500 PSI) you likely have a pump issue. If not you likely have a controller/actuator issue.

jim, just a guess on my part, no biggie.

then there's my allis, where the PO got BOTH wrong

at least he had an excuse for the model, someone played the time-honored "let's put WD45 decals on the WD" game. coulda been him, but i doubt it.

Chattering says low oil when only half way up.... Especially with an empty bucket. Pumps with low pressure usually hiss or squeal, no?
