2n carb question

i have my dads 2n working with very bright spark and strong power under load however at low idle it spits a bit, also i still need to choke to start even when still warm from running, his carb was so out of adjustment so i started with turning main mixture all the way in and backing out 1 turn then turned idle mixture all the way in and backed out 1 turn, starts fine with help from the choke, idles with some spitting, so i thought i'd play around a bit while running, turned main mixture in all the way and it quit(like it's suppose to), backed the main mixture back out 1 turn started and idled with a bit of spitting so i wanted to see what would happen if i backed the main mixture out slowly until totally out, as soon as the needle was totally out rpms picked up and no spitting, is this normal? seems like this carb is starving for air however full throttle in 3rd gear it has plenty of power. air cleaner was cleaned through out.

what are your thoughts?
thanks dave

Does partial choke help the spitting or make it worse?
Most of the time that idle air screw is less than 1/2 turn out.
It adjusts air, so turning it in gives you a richer mixture.

It really sounds like you have a blocked passageway in the carb.

YOu need to open it up again and run a wire thru EVERY passageway and make sure they are clean. Rubber tipped air nozzle will help also.

used some of my welding tip cleaners, played with the idle mixture just a touch and runs like a raped ape, thanks all
