SEAT TIME - Raking, Baling (with pics, of course!)

Did some raking and baling tonight before rain moves in tomorrow early AM. Unfortunately was unable to get but about half the field baled before the dew started settling, so the rest will just have to get rained on.

One of the great things about country living is that a neighbor (who lives three miles away) saw me picking up bales as he drove past in the dark (!). He turned around and pulled into the field and asked if I needed any help. I told him I'd have to think about it… :p

The hay is on my 18' car hauler trailer tucked in the big shed, and I stuck the two 8Ns in the small shed still hooked up to the rake and baler. You can see the Hesston in the background - all three tractors and both balers are related (in a "Six Degrees of Separation" sense). Fiat now owns the Hesston and New Holland brands, and New Holland was of course owned by Ford prior to being sold to Fiat.

Ha! That one's 50x40. The "big" one used to be 88x55 until it got ripped in half by a tornado - I had it rebuilt to 76x55.

The problem with big sheds is that stuff tends to accumulate until you need to build another one! :p

Always love the pictures Ed, thanks for posting them. I hope
you can get the rest of that hay in without it getting ruined.
Always seemed like once it started raining here it rained every
other day and there was no chance to get any haying done.

Thanks, Royse. The rain passed north and south of us, so the hay was ready to bale when I got home from work. I had finished drop-baling and picked up maybe 50 bales when I see a guy I don't know traipsing across the field… he walks up and out of the blue asks if I wanted any help. :p

I didn't have to think about it this time. We filled two racks, and he refused any money when we were done. Had nice conversation getting to know him while we worked, though. He lives in the small town (1,400) about six miles north of us, and helps his Dad farm. He's a welder by trade (maybe a good guy to know!).
