Valve cover gaskets!

I've noticed lately that my valve cover gaskets have been leaking oil. I've tightened up the covers but still seam to leak again in just a week or two. How big a job is it to replace those gaskets? Is the exhaust /intake manifold in the way? I've been looking for an excuse to take a peak at the valves just to see how dirty they are how much carbon deposits there are. What else should I look for while I have them off?

Assuming you have an N series tractor. I just did mine two days ago. Now some will chime in that it can be done easier I feel to do it right I removed manifold and governor. Gives you clear access to clean surfaces and easily put on covers.

if you have small hands, and good moving joints, you can do it with everything in place.

i think removing the CARB would make a huge difference.

I don't like removing the manifold till it needs it.. your call.

I have had the cover off my 9n without removing anything. But it was not easy.My 9n has studs and that made it more difficult.I
did away with the studs and used bolts. Made it much easier to go back together.

The new gaskets are so thin they don't seal well because most valve covers are wrapped from being over tightened. I buy two sets
of gaskets. Then silicone a pair together letting them dry before I install them. Clean the covers and the mating block area well.
Use a little more gasket sealer and the should hold. You need to put a dab of sealer on the bolt threads also.
