Royse - more 2n questions

Royse,

It's been a week now with the ATF and it's still very stuck. The "BF screwdriver" won't budge the ring gear at all.

You said to rock it back and forth. This maybe a dumb question, but how hard should I rock it? Which gear is best? The tractor has the sherman overdrive on it too. Should I engage that lever up or down?

I am unsure if I should gently rock it a couple of times back and forth per day or if I should get a little more muscle involved. When should I add more atf?

I know better than to get too vicious with it but I can't see how rocking it will break anything. I got it home but won't be able to get it inside until later this fall since I have very limited space. So I do not want to disassemble it yet. Thanks for all your help.

I use high gear because that's what I've always used to pull start.
You have to use some force, enough that you can feel it stop hard.
Not enough force to skid tires or anything like that though.

Be careful with the prybar/screwdriver on the flywheel too.
Lots of us have done it that way and some of us have broken
teeth off. I'm not naming names!

I used a product called Engine Release once too.
"Guaranteed" to free your engine if you follow their instructions.
Their instructions include putting an air impact wrench
on the crankshaft bolt and rattling it every day.
I didn't do that, I just rocked it from the rear tires.
I don't know how good the guarantee is because it worked.
It doesn't look like their website is up anymore though.

Rapidfire,Like Royce said high gear, put it in 3rd and shift the Sherman to the rear.Get one stout guy on each rear tire and rock it back and fourth hard as you want and watch the fan blade for movement.Rocking back and forth lets the pistons move both ways instead of getting bound up.Keep at least a 1/2 cup of ATF dumped in each plug hole while soaking and screw plugs in to keep rain and dirt out.If you see the fan move you can remove the plugs to help let it turn over.

"watch the fan blade for movement.Rocking back and forth lets the pistons move both ways instead of getting bound up"

Great addition Den, thank you. I think I mentioned the fan blade on his last post but left it out this time.
With all the good advice from forum members, he'll get it going.

Thank you both for the tips. I gave it a few good rocks last night. I didn't see the fan move any yet. The belt is kinda loose though. I can move it a good inch or more. Do I use the bolt on the generator to tighten it up? I am not sure how much give it should have.

I will continue to rock it each night and get a little more aggressive. I may have a buddy come by this weekend and help me too.

yes, tighten it by adjusting the generator's position.

u want to reduce that slack till u can only move it a half inch.

As said, yes you adjust the generator to tighten it.
On a 2N with original genny setup there is an adjusting bolt.
I doubt that would be the issue here, but it won't hurt.
Best of luck! :)
