Gas supply Valve 9N Under Tank

I read somewhere that you should only open the tap valve 1 turn, not all the way open. Is this true and why would it effect anything ?

See tip # 21.

If you have the fuel knob turned on all the way, & 1 gallon or less in the tank, it may be trying to feed off of the reserve inlet which is probably clogged. Only open it 2 full turns. Put at least 2 gallons in the tank. (and do not forget to turn the gas off; see tip # 9)

I've always opened the valve on my 8N two turns. I read that somewhere and it works for me. I have run out of gas a few times and opened it all the way for the reserve fuel and it worked fine.

Only ran on reserve setting long enough to get back to my storage shed right away and get more gas.

I finally got one of those fuel tank cap gauges and like it a lot.

It says right on the sediment bowl valve assembly knob: "MAIN 2 TURNS" and "RESERVE FULL" <---OPEN. Now, the original 9N fuel valve assembly was a brass unit with a lever for MAIN and RESERVE...
