Interesting two days

I'm getting ready to leave on a month vacation this Sunday so I dedicated Friday to grass cutting. I used the 9N to cut the lawn (1.5 hours), changed mowers and attacked the highest of the two fields. The crappy Chinese governor wasn't doing its job so I wore a blister being on and off the throttle so much but I finished the worst part (another 1.5 hours). I went to the second field and got 1/2 way through and heard a bang and noticed smoke coming out of the right side. I leaned over and oil was pouring out of the governor. Needless to say I'm a little bummed since I planned to come home midway and do some cutting in two weeks.

The tractor was still too hot in an hour to get the governor off. It hung up on the top stud, the bottom being a bolt. This morning I went at it and with some prying and wiggling it came off. It was trashed. The shaft assbly had two broken arms, the balls had beat the housing to death and put a big crack in the housing.

I dug my old original governor that leaked like a sieve out and took it apart. Putting a straight edge of it revealed the ears were warped out so the middle leaked. Some 100 grit wet/dry automotive paper and a lot of elbow grease trued up the housing well enough. I made my own gasket and put it on.

How happy I was, no leaks, ran like it used to. Cut the rest of a high field without even touching the throttle. I'm a happy clam now. BTW I'm done with that Chinese crap.

Oh yeah, my tractor never breaks down when the weather is nice and the grass isn't growing or I don't have to go on vacation. It was miserable hot these last two days.

K agree, if possible I will always rebuild the old stuff. Generators, starters, govs, carbs, etc.
