9N Hydraulic Control Valve Inside Pump Help

Please help me help my neighbor. He needs his 9N for haying and we have it gutted.

He and another neighbor, neither of which is mechanical and both very old have started on it and enlisted my help.

One of the lift arms broke and they bought another complete top cover to fix it. I helped them get the top cover off and found the inside of the cavity full of sludge. I pulled the pump and PTO shaft out and cleaned it up.
Going back together, I'm really confused about the control valve.

What part is supposed to hold all these pieces together?
I noticed the tube with the tapered ends will slide right through the pump to the other side. What keeps it from falling out?

I apologize for the poor quality picture.

I got the pic to the "upload pics" box, but it vanishes when I preview or post. How do I post the pic?

thanks.

What is "tube with tapered ends"? My guess is that you are speaking of the control valve spool. If yes, it is attached to control linkage by tee & horseshoe linkage. You need a manual.

hanks for the reply.
He has a manual but there is not enough detail to tell anything. It shows the complete valve assembled as one piece and the illustration is tiny.
My neighbor just called me back and said he found the other half of the poppet valve looking thing that goes thru the spool and holds it all together. It was laying inside the big drain plug. That answers the question of what holds it all together, but now we have to figure out which end of the spool tube (the thing with tapered ends) is front. Maybe it will be self-explanatory when we get back into it tomorrow.

I can't help much with the hydraulics question.
However, once you have the picture in the little preview box,
you should see a Continue button appear above it. Click that
to insert the link into your text before you preview.
The picture you tried to post will most likely help others help you.

Your pix is to big I have the same issue if I use the download function here. :( I have to send the pix to paint and resize it then its a 50/50 chance it will down load. My internet speeds are super fast (cable) so its easier to load them to photobucket and go from there.
