Royse, Carb Rebuilds?

Royse, since Gary has stopped rebuilding the N Carbs, are you now "the Man" for them?

I have a neighbor that has a 50 8N front mount that he was having a problem with it staying running. It will run for about 5 minutes and then die. It would start back up after a short time and then do the same thing. He took it to a "tractor shop". They said it was an electrical problem and it needs a new carb. $1000 for a new carb! I told him to go get it and tell them to "shove it"!

I need to get his N running so he won't try to borrow mine!

 apparently, this place seems to think so. but even if it is, i doubt that will fix the alleged electrical problem ;)

I had a couple carbs done by both these gentlemen and the work was first rate.

I would check the fuel flow thru the carb before I got in hurry and did something that may not need done. One of my 8n acted the same and the standpipe in the tank was partially plugged. Should flow a pint in 2 or 3 minutes out of the drain plug in the bottom of the carb.

I've been rebuilding a lot of them Danny but I'm not quite
convinced that this one needs to be rebuilt just yet.
Get it back from the shop so we can run some tests.
Spark check when it quits would be a first in my book.
If that is good, then check fuel flow through the carb.
With the gas cap tight and then with it loose.
My email is open if you want to contact me directly.

Right you are sir! She is home and doing well. No Hula-hooping though! ;)

I helped him a few months back get it running. Points, plugs, condenser, new wires, etc. After getting it running, I didn't stay around to see if it would stay running. A few days later he told me that it would run for about 5 minutes and then die. But it would start back up after a few minutes. I told him to check the fuel flow. When I was there helping him I noticed that his fuel shutoff didn't have the wheel to turn off the gas and he didn't even know it was there. I told him to replace the shutoff valve and check filter at carb. He replaced the valve and said there was no filter at the carb elbow, but he pulled the plug on the bottom of the carb when it shut down and he had good flow. When he gets the tractor back, I'm going to start checking all the electrical.

Don't assume anything until you check it for yourself. I would start by rechecking the fuel flow, if one just pulls the plug , it will look like good fuel flow, you have to let it drain all the fuel out of the bowl before you get any idea of what is going on.

Royse, could you check out my 48 8N carb if I dropped it off? Tractor has set for over 5 years. I pulled the plug from the bottom of the carb. Flow was slow, but I did not time or measure the flow as was recently suggested on this site. I went through it with a kit a while back, but did not pull jets to clean. Starts but will not stay running. You saw the 8N when you picked up the 8N rear end. Hope that is working out for you. BTW Scott's sandblasting has blasted some of my parts. Great recommendation. He currently is renting a compressor. He blew up? one compressor. Sounds like his other compressor has diesel pump and injector problems. Bill T

Be happy to Bill.
