Coolant Leak from Behind Pulleys

Hello. Got a coolant leak, fluid coming from the engine, just behind the alternator/fan pulley. Any ideas....?

I appreciate your help, the forum has always been helpful to me. Thanks.

check the upper radiator hose for leaks. next suspect would be the water pump. have a careful look at the radiator too.

Thanks. Radiator is fairly new, I have done my best to look at the top hose, and it looks dry. Seepage really seems to be coming from the front of the engine, and coolant level is very low in the radiator. Water pump? Easy to replace?

Thanks again,

ya, then most likely water pump. i only mention the radiator because i've seen cases where the fan was pulling coolant from a leak and blowing it back onto the engine.

i haven't changed one on these engines, but it looks like an easy job unless there's some secret problem with it i don't know about.

Its easy if you take the hood off. (see tip #12)

Put a tstat in it if it doesnt have one ( tip # 25) and replace the hoses. And 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water.

Do NOT buy a new pump. Have yours rebuilt.

Progress was excellent. I apologize for not following your advice, a new pump was $34, a rebuild kit (on YT) was $51. So there you go. I would still recommend rebuilding, because the new pump was not exactly the same outside size as the old, and so interfered a bit with my 12V conversion bracket.

I was able to do this job just fine without removing the hood, although snaking the old pump out and the new one in was very tight. That fan did not move very far out of the way. Maybe because my replacement radiator is different from stock?

All is happy now.
