i keep forgetting to ask about this.
after i rebuilt my 2N engone, during reassembly, i noticed there was no way for the filter canister to sit properly against the head/block, as there is a boss (hope that's the right term) sticking out of the block which interferes with the seating of the front end of the bracket. easy solution, i just slipped a fat washer in the gap - but i don't remember even noticing anything odd about the fit when i took it apart to begin with.
my serial number tells me that the engine itself is original. did this canister come off a different N model, maybe? there's no way that bracket could have ever sat flat against the side of the block/head here.
