new prob, electrical fixed

got the electrical prob fixed, now my new 12v system has the starter stuck, my other 8n does this and i have to rock it for it to pop out, any ideas out side of that?

my 2N does this too. i've always been able to rock it and free it up first try.

i'm trying to figure out if there's a pattern to when this happens - but i use the tractor so little, it's hard to get a good sample size. since i thought about paying attention to the circumstances, it hasn't done it again, of course.

is it sticking because it fails to start and doesn't disengage? if yes.. get the ignition and engine in order. also check the ring gear and starter drive gear. chewed gears can stick.

i can't speak for vidalia, but mine starts well. all the times it has stuck on me were after i voluntarily shut the tractor off - then it acted like this when i went to start it the next time.

i'm starting to wonder if i should be suspecting the switch and not the starter, and if rocking it in my case is not really doing anything. having trouble figuring out why i'd never hear anything from the starter at all when it does this - if it were jamming on the flywheel, i ought to hear something momentarily, right?

I would be removing the starter and checking the condition of the flywheel teeth. May be time for a new ring gear.

that's a good question soundguy, would they sound similar? i have an 8n that i have to rock back and forth that works but is there another possibility?

Switches are electric. The drive gear is mechanical.

If the switch is activating the relay, and the relay works, connections and bat are good, I'd pull the starter to look at the shaft, drive gear and ring gear

no relay here, mine's a 2N. when i said switch, i really meant anything from the push button back to and includng the actual switch itself.

next time this happens to me, i'll be paying a lot more attention.
