Drilling Holes For Adjusting Valves

I am wanting to adjust the valves on a 8N. I broke every set of valve adjusting tools I had ( 4 sets) and haven't got the job done yet.
If I drill holes into the block where the lifter are, I can probably put a magnet by the outside of the bit to collect the metal chips, But what happens when the bit goes through and the chips fall into the lifter. Now what to I do?
I did do a 8N that had the holes already drilled and that worked great!

You probably don't want to hear this, but you are going to have to take the lifters out first. Not only to avoid drilling into them, but to be able to smooth the burr from the drill hole where it goes through and to insure there are no metal shavings in the bore. If it were me, I think I would try to finish adjusting them as they are and leave the drilling for the next time the engine is apart.

Look up on here for tool I found one you make

Depends on the age of the lifters you may be able to pry them up high enough to put a nail or punch in the oil hole, some had tall slots others had round holes.

All the lifters I have ran into have a hole are a indention drill it at that area,,, I hold a shop vac close while Drill'N...

Your adjusters are STUCK  BTDT and learned to work the adjuster free while I had them out...

I am sure I saw a professional mechanic drilling the holes for lifter adjustment; he had the engine block on a stand that allowed him to turn the engine upside down, so drilling chips fell away from the block, not into it.

Back when I had my V8 flathead hot rod, I made my own valvetrain tools. Still have them tucked away somewhere.....they work damn well.
