If you are looking to buy another tractor then I say skip both of them and get a Jubilee or newer.
Ifn you Gots to have another N then buy the 2N.
Much better transmission.

2N over 8N? Even with 4 speed, position control, better brakes and newer tractor? Sold the 9N I had over the 8N of grandfather's. A Sherman is worth that much more?

I had a 2N with a good, strong engine but wanted the features you mention on an 8N.
So I bought a smokey 8N and swapped engines then sold the now smokey 2N.
When I got the 8N running I was SO disappointed with that fast reverse speed that I sold that one too and bought a later tractor. And I didn't like the gearing of the 4 speed as well as the 3.
If I were to do a swap like that again I would swap out everything behind the transmission too. Gain the position control, real drawbar and better brake pedals of the 8N but keep the superior 3 speed.

not mine....

The 2n smokes and the left rear tire is cracked in the center of the tread ( full size pic #3). New tires are going to set you back a minimum of $800 if that fuel filter doesn't catch it on fire , LOL . New tires will last decades though . The step up is good if you have to travel a distance but I never really got much out of my combo Sherman .

The 8n has new loop rims ? and good tires .

How many acres do you have , what are you going to be using the tractor for ? Flat land , hills ? The N's are great tractors in the right environment but lacking in others . They make a great second tractor for light duty work also .

Neither one of these are great deals or bad deals . Depends on your budget , usage , mechanical ability , etc .
