1940 9N Work Light

One of the things I need to address on my 1940 9N is the work light mounted on the right fender. I have a taillight on the left fender. First of all, did the 1940 come from the factory with a work light or was it even a dealer available option? If this is something that was not available from either, I'll probably remove it. Otherwise, I want to replace it as all that is there is the housing on a fender mount bracket and it has been smacked out of round. My question is, if that light would be appropriate on a 1940, what version do I want? Dimpled glass, frosted rings or sealed beam? I will be converting this tractor back to 6V so we're talking 6V for the work light.

Lights did not come from the factory on any 9/2Ns. They were installed by dealers or the owners. I don't think any of the
lights you have pictured were available in 1940. My 1940 9N has CM Hall headlights and a Taurus tail light. I did not put a
rear work light on it. My 9N accessories literature shows a head light kit (CM Halls and Taurus taillight) and states "One
headlight may be removed and mounted on the rear fender as shown"

I remember reading about the swapping a headlight to the rear. I think I'll review and probably post some pictures of what's on the rear of my 9N before I do anything. My tail light might be correct but the work light would not be.

DITTO to what Harold Cooke said. ALL FORD TRACTORS came from the factory naked -9N thru Hundred Series anyway. The original 9N Lighting Kit used the big CM HALL headlights (2) with 1 TAURUS Taillight. If you wanted a worklight on the rear, you removed the right headlight and mounted it on the fender bracket with the wing. The Implement Lamp you show is the 8N15500 one, released in 1949. That doesn't mean you can't put one on your 9N. Many farmers did, even switched out their headlights to the sealed beam style when they came out. When the 9N first came out, lights were not considered. The charging system was not made to handle lights with the small A generator with voltage regulator and the B generator with the round-can cutout. OHM's Law comes into play here, but that is the gist of it. I have several original 8N15500 Implement lamps, TAURUS Taillights, and a set of the 9N CM HALL headlights for sale if interested...my email is open...

I have the Taurus tail light on the left fender. The headlights are unmarked sealed beams and the work light housing on the right fender appears to match the headlights. Since there is already a bracket mounted to that fender and I don't know what the paint looks like underneath, I think I'm going to replace the work light on it. Was the dimpled glass or the ringed glass the older of the two?

Through the heavy paint I can read Tract-O-Lite on the headlights. I'm going to keep them for now. They are sealed beams but are in excellent condition and are mounted tight and cleanly. The broken work light also turned out to be Tract-O-Lite and the fender bracket has a crack so I simply removed it all since it would not have been part of the lighting kit anyhow. The fender paint under the bracket looks good. I do have a Taurus tail light on the left fender so it stays.
