Carb Question

I have an aftermarket carb on a 1952 8n and I was wondering if this gasket with a missing piece would cause me to have to use the choke to keep it running? (about ? of the way out)
The carb is plated (gold in color)looks good and clean inside but I am also concerned that maybe the plating is flaking off and also causing problems.
I have a spare, should I just rebuild it and put this one on the shelf.

Personally I would clean the plated one up making sure ALL the passages are clear..
Look carefully for delamination of the plating.
If was done right there shouldn't be any plating inside any ways.

What I found was a lot of powdery residue inside the carb so I cleaned that out with a small wire brush on a dermal like tool. I also found the float was too high causing
a low level in the bowl. I cleaned out all the passages and put back together, and after adjusting it up seems to be working just fine. Thanks for all the replies.

Modern view is a pain--I see no advantage especially since EDIT don't work on it---I guess it still dont work....no site is good if not maintained..

You stated you cleaned all passages did you let it soak all night in a solvent
get a good solvent and let it soak
then use blow gun to clean all passages
you will need a new gasket.
make sure the needle and seat look ok
