Tire Protectorant

What was that protectorant called we were talking about some months back? Aero or something like that? It was suggested that the traditional automotive type protectorants one might use on tires contained petroleum distillates that actually harms tires long term. This product was supposed to be good for rubber.

I don't recall the original post, but there is a protect called 303 aero protect or something like that, which advertises it protects tires from UV rays.

personally, I think its bogus. I've been hearing for years that these petroleum based products will dry out material and cause it crack. My dad has a 1971 Chevelle he bought brand new, its been in dry storage in our garage since the 80s, with armor all on the dash and tires. periodically cleaned and more shine applied. not a crack anywhere on the interior and zero signs of cracks/weathering on the tires.

I'd vote keep them out of the sun and shine them up with whatever you like.

I read it on the internet from a Frenchman so I know it is true , but tires actually last longer if you periodically drive the vehicle . When tires flex oils in the rubber are released that protect from UV and ozone damage .

I once used lots of detergents to keep my white letters bright and clean . I noticed that even after the car wash the cleaners would turn black as it ran down the tires . I also noticed they cracked prematurely .

Now days I don't use any foams or armorall and park in the shade. My tractors , cars , and trucks are not getting dry rot cracks .

I can buy into that and nothing I own is for static display so the tires are all getting some use. I'm still going to use the protectorant. It's called 303. I found it yesterday.

I used tire cleaner and shine on my 10 ply truck tires once,

In short order they started cracking on the side walls, I was told it was only cracking of a thin outer covering, but it did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling driving on tires with sidewall cracks,

I would not put anything on my tires other than car wash and water, keep them in the shed out of direct sunlight when not in use
I believe this policy is best for long time tire care,

I'm sorry but that is 100% bs. there is no way you used tire shine once and it ruined your tires.

Tiger,
I miss spoke, I ment I used it on one set of Michelin tires, I used the protectant a number of times on that set of expensive tires heavy duty truck
tires, 10 ply rating tires
Tires had about 30k miles when the sidewall splits started,
All I know is when I when back to my dealer, he said the tire cleaner shine had an adverse effect on the thin tire covering, it would dry out the
rubber and cause splits

Now it could have been poor tire construction that caused the sidewall splits, I do not know for sure, but based on what he said and looking at
the tires I have not used it on any tires since then,

That is just my experience, I will not use it again, you guys do what you feel lead to do,

This was the whole point of trying to find the 303. It's not supposed to do that. I just couldn't remember what it was called. I do agree with keeping UV off the tires or the whole machine for that matter as much as possible.
