Pull type bushhog for my 8n

I've got a 52 model 8n. My 5' 3pt bushhog is about on its last leg. I wouldn't mind having a pull type the next time. I don't have a drawbar, but I do have the chains that suspend to my 3pt drawbar. They will keep it from being forced down, but not flying up. Will I be satisfied with the performance of a pull type shredder behind my 8n, with my setup?

Pull type are less common and more
expensive new or used generally. I'm
sure they work well for large fields but
I like being able to lift the bushog and
turn on a dime or back up over brush, or
edges of banks etc. Usually pull type
were used with old farmall or Deere
tractors that lacked 3pt.

In all honesty, I've never been real satisfied with the performance of my 3pt bush hog on my 8n. I need my chains to maintain a consistent height.

We always used chains on our naa as well
since the 3pt was plum wore out, but
with chains it worked well. The 661 and
3400 both did fine without chains. I
only ever ran a tow behind one once but
I don't think it will be any more
consistent than 3pt with chains since
the relatively small wheels catch every
gopher hole and such

Fine in a wide open large field, not so much in close quarters or with trees/obstacles.

Pull behind rotary cutters are fine in large open spaces, but if you have trees, barns tight spaces, I do not think you are going to like the pull
behind unit,

Be sure you have an over riding pto clutch, no matter what unit you buy,

My 3 point position control works just fine on my 8N but I always use limiter chains on my woods rotary mower. I like the fact that the mower is just hanging there without the hydraulics having to work to keep it at the same level.

Like others said, good as long as you don't have much to go around. one thing, if you hook a pull behind to your 3 point, you do not have any means from keeping the tongue from raising up. there is no pressure
down. if you go over a mound or something the tongue will raise and the tongue will hit your pto shaft.
