Brought home a nice 1940 9N

Last night I picked up the 1940 9N I committed to purchase the other day. Previous owner called it "Ol' Betsy" and my wife was quick to latch on to that as well. I think were going to work towards making it correct for showing more than using though it'll get a little exercise now and then. There is a lot correct about this tractor and some things that don't belong. I'll be leaning on you guys a bit as I try to get this back to original. I ordered the books from Dennis-Carpenter last night (shop, operator and parts manuals). I'm going to get that bumper guard off and change the fluids before I do anything else. 15W40 Rotella, Napa Gold 1010 oil filter and Rotella UTF. Anyway, here is a quick snap I took last night when I loaded Ol' Betsy up to bring her home.

Looks good. I'm not an expert, but I have a 1940 sn18765. Would like to see more pictures of your tractor and would be happy
to try an answer any questions you have.

Yeah, as I go along I will post more pictures. I don't want to give you too much to work with right now because I'll be overloaded with things to change. I have other stuff to work on too. lol.

This one is sn31649. I haven't had a chance to look for the other numbers yet. It's going to need some electrical work when I convert it back to a generator and fix the push button. They sort of hacked up the wiring a bit. They completely bypassed the safety starter and installed a key switch with start in an odd place. It also has the red light on the panel that I thought they stopped using long before my serial number. Just some stuff like that to clean up. A few other odds and ends then the typical service needs like repack bearings and maybe replace a drag link end, etc.

Congrats. Ol' Betsy is looking pretty good. I have SN 19846 and it's still pretty original if you want to compare notes.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I'll take care of some obvious stuff first. I changed the engine oil and replaced the filter. The drain plug was full of sludge and the oil pressure went up about 7psi indicated both cold and hot. I'm seeing 32psi cold and about 22-27psi hot on the clean 15w40 across the rpms.

I ordered an oil fill breather to replace the wrong part, a throttle quadrant to replace the worn one and a new transmission oil dipstick to replace the existing one missing it's handle. I also removed the grill guard.

When the ground dries I'll ride the tractor around a bit to warm it up and drain the non engine oil. It doesn't look too bad but is an unknown fluid of unknown age so it's coming out for Rotella UTF.
