Oil Change and Filter for 1940 9N

I'm bringing home a 1940 9N tomorrow and as the fluids are unknown, I plan to change them asap. Did the earliest 9N's have oil filters? Mine has the oil filter housing but not sure if it's a screen or a filter. I was planning to grab a 6731 filter. I'm using Rotella 15W40 in my 640. Is that appropriate for the early 9N as well?

Yes. Same filter thru 1952 8N - NAPA 1010. Also used in my 1960 and 1970 Mercedes and my 1965 Porche 356.

I always "donate" the "spent oil" to my BLACKSMITH.

He heats the "horse shoe" shop over the WINTER months with the drainin's.

Thanks Harold. I confirmed that part number and others. The Napa appears a substantial filter so I picked up a Napa Gold 1010 on the way home from work along with more Rotella T 15W40 diesel motor oil which I already use in my non-diesel 640. I'm in Indiana so a multiweight seems appropriate and the 15W40 is where I'll start.

John I always donate my used oils to a friend who has a waste oil furnace and heats his shop with it.

Bruce. Thank you for the tip sheet. I've run across that before and it is an excellent resource. Thanks for taking the time to do that whenever you did!
