I need to replace my hydraulic bushings . i can lift the arms up and down over 1/8 inch. is it possible to remove just one arm and then push the shaft and bushings out together ? thanks Ken

You can remove one arm and press the shaft out.
The bushings will not likely come with it but they're not difficult.
The lift arm that connects via the dogbone to the piston is also
keyed onto that shaft and pressed on. I've never tried to do it
without taking the lift cover off and I don't think I would.
I've had to use a 20 ton press and LOTS of heat to get it done.
Maybe others have had success with doing it another way.

Not really .

You may be able to remove both arms , tap the shaft to one side which would shove a bushing most of the way out , then tap it to the other side and do the same thing . The spline section in the middle is larger than the id of the bushings . The bushings are not a tight pressed fit , snug but not bad .

Usually it takes a hydraulic press to get things moving . The center arm has splines with one double row so it only fits one way . If you moved the shaft too far left or right and the center arm came loose from the splines , you might not get it lined up without removing the cover anyway .

Personally I would not worry about just the bushings if I was not overhauling the whole top cover , they will NEVER wear to point that they cause a malfunction .

From my experiences if your getting 1/8" of slop it is because your shaft has rusted away also and new bushings will only fix half of the slop .

Also , you must remove each lift arm because the bushing will not slide over the center section of splines . Those lift arms are stubborn . Maybe heat and a 10 pound sledge with a two foot handle and baseball swings . Yeah they can be a booger . This is best done while the cover is still bolted firmly to the tractor . I have found that even days of repeated heat and oil do not penetrate to the middle of the splines under the arms .

I just got through removing 5 sets of arms and disassembling the top covers . After wire wheeling the arms still would not easily slide on / off . It took awhile in the bead blast cabinet but now the slide on / off by hand . They will all get plenty of anti seize .

Zoom in on this shaft and you can see the splines are worn where they rode on the bushing . I don't know why the bushing is there unless maybe it is covering some major pits ? I am not knocking this guy , these shafts are work to remove and they are very expensive , but this is not a shaft you would buy for a restoration project . Even with new bushing there would be some slop .

Wear in the rock shaft can be solved by turning the shaft end-for-end when the bushings are replaced.

Thanks for all the very good advice on my hydraulic lift bushings.i think i`ll deal with the bushings at a latter date .i don`t want to turn a working top cover into a pile of junk. i am very new to the tractor hobby. maybe some day i`ll get brave enough to replace them. i just rebuilt the pump ,put a new lift cylinder with a o-ring style piston and also welded up the the grove on the ramp that the pin did . and cleaned up all 64 years of crud, what a job that was . thanks again, Ken

Chalk it up to a once in a lifetime event... Some things fall into you time clock do it right and you will never have to do it again...

In 64 years it will need to be done again ......
