8n PTO bearing

Hi everybody yesterday I pulled the PTO shaft out of my tractor to change the seals because I noticed they were leaking and when I was disassembling it I noticed that the PTO shaft bearing is quite worn out. What is the best way to remove the old bearing and put a new one on? Is it a better decision to just buy a new shaft?

If the shaft is good you have several options. One is a bearing separator and a press. You can drive the race off with a hammer and chisel too then drive the new bearing back on with a punch being careful to only put the punch on the inner race. Or you can cut the race with a fire wrench or chisel and drive the bearing on.

You can do all that I had the same problem and my housing was cracked. If you go the route of redoing it you'll need the tools and a good vise on the other hand you can but the whole thing on here in yesterdays tractor or other spots, some come with the gasket some do not and they run from $75 to $90 and you'll have to replace the fluid which by doing this you can get all the crap lodged inside of the holding tank.
