The timing gear cover on my 51 8N cracked, the distributer quit turning. When I removed the cover, a spring with a plug fell out.
Where does this spring go? I think it may be some kind of pressure regulator, does it go behind the screw plug near the top of the gear cover?

No parts manual, service manual or access to the parts site on the internet i take it?

Oil pres relief plunger n spring if it is finger shaped

I have the I&T manual, no parts manual. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the spring in the I&T manual. It is kind of sketchy where it describes the timing gear cover. Thanks for your reply.

I have two I&T fo-4 manuals. one shows the spring on page 37 and the other shows it on page 14.
