Carburetor Choke Shaft "Plate"

Good morning! Cleaning and rebuilding the carb on the NAA, have a question as to the choke shaft.....

The plate (for lack of a better description) on the end of the shaft that connects to the choke linkage has come loose from the shaft. The shaft is "pinched" on the end, the plate slides over the shaft end then the shaft appears to have been mushroomed to hold the linkage plate on by the manufacturer. The plate appears to have been forced off of the choke shaft.

Question is.... any suggestions on how to re "mushroom" the end of the shaft to hold the little plate back on? The shaft otherwise appears to be in good condition and usable. I don't want to replace it "just because", and don't want to smack it with a hammer to flatten the end around the plate.

Any ideas?

No, the butterfly is fine. This is the metal piece on the end of the choke shaft that has the ball that connects to the choke rod/linkage. Still have the parts, but when it was manufactured it was just crimped onto the shaft.

Here's a pic of the setup:

Just trying to figure out how not to have to replace the whole shaft, if I can figure out how to re-crimp/mushroom the end of the shaft.

New shafts come in the complete kit if you're rebuilding.
If you're not, you could do as R Geiger suggested.
Failing that, I have a coffee can full of used ones.
I'd mail you one if you want it. No charge.

Thanks, Royse. I'm going to try to braze it on first, if that doesn't work I'll holler at you.

I've soldered and I can weld, but brazing is a new one for me. Guess I'll never learn any younger. :)

Silver solder it.

Unless you are experienced in brazing, the outcome of trying to braze a steel plate to a brass rod may not be as hoped.
Stay brite

I opted to leave mine alone when i did the rebuild. The plate has some bends you have to undo to get the shaft out. I would silver solder it and make sure your spring on the plate is in place.
