OT---- Oil question

Have always used 10w30 in 200 Ford engine--I have wound up with a gallon of 5W20 and a
gallon of 10W40 that I need to get rid of so it won't just sit here forever..Will one or
the other work in the 200 engine without hurting anything? Guess I can get rid of one in my
2N since it hadn't been changed in Forever..(Runs almost none but needs changed
anyway)..Thanks

Someone will propably gouge me for this...
But if you mixed them together wouldn't you end up with something like 7.5W30.
That would work for most any engine I would think.
I was given an unopened gallon of 30 non detergent a while back. I use it to fill the oil cup in the air cleaner.

The numbers are not empirical measures -- they are grades. The actual viscosity of the mix will vary by brand and product within brands. Using the actual viscosity data for Mobil 1 High Mileage synthetic as an example you would wind up with a "heavy" 5W30 grade oil. Result would be:

68.1 cSt @40C
11.2 cST @100C
Viscosity index of around 155

I use 15-40 in everything but the lawn mowers. 10-40 isn't far off. I would use it. The other is a bit thin. You would likely see oil consumption. A gallon isn't all that much, so don't worry if it takes a while to use. I changed the oil in a few things this weekend and got away with 15 gallons.

They say don't use multi viscosity in small engines as it bumps up oil consumption. When I buy Turf Guard from JD for the gators and mowers it is 10-30 and they don't use any. If I put that in the old flathead Briggs on the Snapper she uses some.

Any motor oil you use today has to be an improvement what they had back in the day when these old tractors were new. I use 10w 40 detergent motor oil in my Ford 2N. I read somewhere on this site that any oil will do a good job as long as you change it when it needs changing. A detergent motor oil my not clean out the old sludge and crud that has built up over the past 60 or 70 years but it might prevent more being added to it. My old 1946 hasn't smoked or used oil between oil changes since I've had for the last 3 year. When I got it home the oil was so black I let it drain overnight and used some cheap 30weight to flush it out and changed it again changed it again with 10w 40. I have about 50 to 60 hour on my last oil change an it is still as clean as it was when I changed it.
