Hard to start when warm

46 2n with 12 volt conversion. I have made a few adjustments ( timing etc. ) and now the tractor starts great when cold either summer or winter.
I have lots of problems restarting when warm. Just doesn't want to go but when it does it runs excellent. I also find that the starter gear doesn't
stay engaged to the flywheel gear . Any thoughts?
Thanks . Brian

Compare spark when cold and hot. Hint - an ignition switch with corroded contacts will have more resistance when hot.

For the starter issue, get a new style starter drive--you will be glad u did.....Your problem with it kicking out too soon will be solved...

Brian, Here it is get it right here.

New improved design starter drive

Tell us more about when it doesn't want to restart.
Is it when you park the tractor for 30 minutes and shut the gas
off or when you just shut it off, get off and do something and
five minutes later it won't restart with the gas left turned on?
Does it help or hurt if you try to choke it?
What do your spark plugs look like? Black and sooty?

The starter kicking out is usually because the engine actually
fired and over-sped the starter. Exactly what it is supposed to do.
With the exception that the engine is supposed to stay running.
I like the new starter drives too but I think curing the hard
start may also help the starter kick out issue.

I will check the plugs tomorrow. It usually gives me trouble after shut off for approx. 5 minutes but always close the fuel valve even or hat short
time. I have tried with the choke on , off , and half out.
Thanks for the advice

As a test, shut the fuel off and let it run a few minutes before
shutting the engine down. Does it start up Ok after that?
