I am working on an 8N. 1948 model from what I was told.Need to get some idea what it is worth. Farm was sold and new owner wants it gone. Has a small cutter to go with it. Front Mount Dis.
Tractor pretty well beat up
Radiator has been repaired many times.
Needs some wiring repairs
Dist is off at this time. For a rebuild.
Tires not the best.
Engine does run but has heating problems.

I am not trying to sell this thing. Owner ask me what I thought it was worth. I told him I have no idea but would ask.

A picture would help but I would not pay more than 700 dollars and that is assuming the engine or transmission is not stuck.

If you can go take a look at try and find the serial#

Sounds like a $1,000 Or best offer tractor.

If he wants to fix it up a bit, wiring harness is around $20.

A non running 8N is a parts tractor, worth $500 or less.

It would likely be worth more if running.

Agreed , the catch 22 is for every $100 invested the value goes up $50 unless you really know what you are doing . If you get lucky and do not need a lot of parts you can make $3 hr for your labor .

You really only come out ahead if you plan on keeping the tractor and using it yourself , especially if it needs tires .

I went through the parts section and added all of the parts you would need to completely overhaul an average condition N from one end to the other , brakes , axles , hydraulics , steering , cooling , engine , etc

Assuming you replace the Genny , carb , distributor , governor , manifold with new replacements and got the comprehensive engine , brake , hydraulic kits , your looking at about $4500 in material .

Then add labor and outside machine work . This is assuming your rear axles , trans gears , head , cam , crank are usable .

Then you have to figure in tires .

$10k for a near perfect tractor , $15k for a top of the line is not unreasonable .

If you got lucky, and you just need seals , gaskets , bushings , and a motor pepped up , you could get out for about $1k plus your time for a $3k tractor .

This is why around here non runners are about $500 , weak running are $12-1500 , and I don't really see any selling over $2500 .

Sell it as is for $700 and take $500 if they offer . You will be further ahead .

Just talked to the new owners. They are going to put it up as is make offer. To me they will be better off this way. This thing has been a pain in the
backside for the last three years.Maybe now the nightmares will go away. Thanks to everyone.

id offer 500, come up to 700 if that's what it takes to buy it, its basically a core tractor, that is it can be made into a runner and a worker and bring around 1500 to 2 grand depending on paint, around here a nice N with usable rubber gets 3 grand all day, but it better be nice, and everything work as intended, if you want it for yourself you can put even more money in it as i did with my jubilee and have a good working and good looking tractor for years to come, you wont get the money back out of it, but you willhave a reliable tractor and still be better off than buying a new orange or green tractor money wise

with the description, I agree on the $700 range.
beat up cutter? put it on the tractor, get the tractor to at least start, then ask $1000.

Newer cutter? with the crazy implement prices lately...it might be worth more than the tractor....
