parts question

i was looking through my spare parts on the shelf, and discovered that i have the following for my 51 8n sidemount....

echlin FA66 condensor
echlin FA67 rotor
echlin FA352 cap
echlin CS753 point set

new replacement starter drive

napa belden spark plug wire set

all of this stuff is new in the box. i got this with a set of stay bars that i bought a few years ago.

i've seen two different sets of points, a set of CS749, and a heavy duty set CS753 which is what i have. what's the difference between the heavy duty and the other?

Bent.......iff'n I remember correctly, the heavy duty set (yer CS753) had "vented" points. (little hole in center of contact) also the contact surface is TUNGSTEN and less likely to "burn". Burned points cause weak sparkies. HTH, the amazed Dell

it does help a lot, Dell. thank you!

while we're discussing sparkies.... how long does the average spark plug last? these are the autolite 437's that have been in the tractor for about 2 years now.

tractor started sputtering under load, sediment bowl was full of crud. i cleaned the sediment bowl, and the screen at the carburetor inlet, no change.

i decided to pull the spark plugs. the plugs are laid out from left to right cylinders 4,3,2,1

i cleaned them, checked the gap, adjusted to fit, and reinstalled them. tractor fired right up, and i used it to pull a tree that i've wanted out of the way for a couple years now.

i might be a bit rich on fuel mixture possibly?
