8n not cranking

Got a old front distributor 8n, pulled a bonehead mistake. Cranked it with the PTO engaged and forgot I had the grain wagon on the back. Cranked it a couple times before I realized what was
going on, heard a crackle up by the starter solenoid region and now it won't do anything. Did I fry the starter, the solenoid or what could it be? Tried to roll start it, nothing.....

Was not in gear, just did not have the clutch in and the PTO was engaged with a grain cart hooked up to the back.

My "guess" - bad connection on a battery cable.
Crackles are usually an audible arc.

Even if you fried the starter or solenoid it should roll start.
Providing you have power to the coil.

I would start by checking the voltage on the connections with a
VOM. If you don't have one handy, cleaning and tightening them
is free other than your time a labor, so not too bad a job.
Include both ends of both cables and the copper strap on the starter.

ranbo.........uh? whats the difference between having yer clodhoppers on the clutch pedal and tranny being in NEUTRAL??? Yer tranny neutral is a SAFETY interlock. Most neubie farmer wanna bees fergitt to turn the weak sister ignition switch ON. (BTDT)........the amazed Dell

PTO does not turn over when the clutch is in....Thought maybe the extra load might have fried something in the harness..checked switch, good, checked starter button, good, probe on battery to top of rotor cap good...

with this description, I agree with Royse.
Your meter will tell you if it's a 30 sec fix or you need to dig deeper.
Big PTO load the starter was workin hard, and drawing lots.
Marginal/dirty connection on one of the big battery cables gave it up with a lightning 'snap'. Battery loses its connection.....no pull start either.
Don't forget the ground side when checking those cables.

Checked the braided ground cable, almost dissolved in-half from the scale. Going to try a new one and see if that helps..traced the wiring as far as I could in the dark, took the battery off this morning and saw the cable...charging while I get another cable and I'll update....

Thanks for all the assistance, it ended up being the ground cable, it was burnt almost in half.....Put a new one on and it fired right up....
