My tractor has been really lagging and lacking power. Everything I read pointed to the governor. Mine was coated in oil and would really struggle under load. Just replaced the governor today and after cranking it the first time, it's at wide open throttle. Can't seem to get it to idle lower. Adjusted the governor per the manual and adjusted the carb, thinking that might help. Nothing. Suggestions welcome.

Make sure you have the throttle rod and rod to carb connected
correctly. See if carb will idle correctly with rod disconnected.

Wash all the dirt and oil off the governor, If necessary take the governor off and thoroughly clean the inside parts. In order to work properly the governor parts should have no lost motion and yet move freely. Check the inside races and balls, no grooves or flat sports should there. Lastly, check the two links on either side of the governor spring. The spring should be snug in each link hole. If the link holes are worn the spring can be squeezed to tighten up any looseness.

You can buy a rebuild kit for the governor -try nnalert Was there an oil lube line going to the old governor? If not, I may be interested in buying your ol done...email is open
