2N backfires under load, and power drops off.

So, all of you esteemed gentlemen, I have recently purchased a 2N for a fair price, I thought.
When I purchased it, it ran really rough, so I twiddled with the carb some, and then it ran great.
So, I ran out and purchased a brush hog (which was the whole reason for buying it in the first place) and after running a few laps with it, it started to overheat.
No big deal, figured I'd flush the system, put in fresh coolant, and I'd be good to go.
Ha.
And doing this, and running a few more laps, it overheated again, this time flooding out the distributor. So I opened it, dried it out, got it to run so I could get it back to the house.
Since then, I have replaced the radiator, the water pump, hoses, and while I had the hood off, I also replaced the sediment bowl.
Now, when I start it up, as I increase the throttle, it backfires out the exhaust, and when I put a load on it, it backfires and looses all its power.
I have checked the firing order, made sure that was right, I have turned in and out all of the screws on the carb (per the recommendations of several of the post), and now I am just lost?
I would say to make a long story short, but it's way too late for that!
Thanks for any help.

SLWagner,I suggest that you check the firing order again as it is backfiring out the exhaust, you could have two wires crossed.Firing order is 1-2-4-3 with #1 by the fan.If that is not the problem check inside of the dist cap and rotor for carbon arcs after being wet,it may need a new cap and rotor.

Uhm, gulp, oh geez, now that I look at your picture, maybe I might just have 1 and 2 backwards, I shall check it out tomorrow, when the light is up.
And if it is wrong, I will sure be bowing to your greatness.
Thanks for the reply.

Den N Ms:
You good sir, I must thank.
I had looked at the firing order fifteen times, and swore it was correct, then, I looked at your post and voila!
Now that I had that problem fixed, I uncovered a larger issue.
While I had it apart, I replaced the sediment bowl. Come to find out, the brand new one wasn't allowing much fuel to get through either. So, to the trash can I went, dug out the old one, reinstalled it, and again, voila!
My little 2N is running like a dream.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious to me.
You are a guru!
