8N wouldn't start

Got on my 8N to do some brush hogging this morning and it wouldn't start. It just clicked. I have a battery disconnect switch so I was sure it wasn't the battery. Ever since putting on that disconnect switch my tractor can sit for months and it always starts.

But I got out the volt meter anyway and started checking. Batt = 12.8. Went down to the starter and both sides of the solenoid read good. Tried the starter stud and at first it looked good. But then I tried on the bottom nut on the stud and the voltage wasn't going down there. I was going to take off the wire and clean it up but when I put a wrench on it, I discovered that the top nut was kind of loose.

I tightened it up and sure enough the tractor started right up.

The reason I posted this is because I see so many posts about people trying to start and hearing that ominous click and they are lost.

I'm no genius but it's been drilled into my head so many times that when you hear that click, you'd better start cleaning up your connections. We've all read on here about people thinking right away that their starter is no good.

Well, that ground connection on my starter look great. It just wasn't conducting enough volts to work the starter. So for you newer guys here it is again.

BRIGHT AND TIGHT. That's what is needed in the electricity world.

By the way, I wanted to get the brush hogging done so I'll take that ground cable off later and clean it up right.
