Got out the Worthington G

I finally got out the 1952 Worthington G that I bought last September to do some work on it. It fired right up after sitting for about 7 months which was nice. The seat it came with was a big bucket seat out of a car which didn?t look good on there (although it was comfortable) so I put on what is closer to the correct seat. Someone really didn?t want the hood door to blow away with those big hinges! Any idea why the oil fill tube was extended up so high other than maybe just for convenience as this is a very low machine? I still need to tighten up some of the radius rod ends and do a few other small things but its in pretty good shape overall.

Worthington made golf course tractors to pull their gang mowers staring in the 1920s with the Model T ford. As the years went by they then based their tractors on the Ford Model A, Ford Model B, Dodge truck in the 1940's, then in 1948 starting making the G series using the 8N engine and hood. It has truck axles and a four speed truck transmission which means it will do 40 mph.

Oil fill/breather tube: some had bad baffle arrangement in them & they would throw oil out. There was a re-design along the way, but maybe your previous owner just lengthened it to solve the problem instead of installing the corrected baffle tube.

I don't know about his G but the PO of my G10 told me he clocked it over 40MPH and still had pedal left but didn't
want to take it higher cause it was too hard to steer. The G10 does have a 192 in it. I don't feel the need to go that
fast.
The PO sold me the tractor cause his wife wanted it gone. He was standing along side the tractor and stated it up. The
was in gear and the dauls ran him over broke his leg in 3 spots. Couple years after and still walks with a good limp.

Look good Dan. Does it also have the pto on it, can't see from the photo. They look to have some big meats on the front. Don't believe they came with 16's. The seat looks A OK on there.

40mph is the top speed in the specs. I have a G2 with the 172 ford engine and the same transmission and it will accelerate in 4th much faster than this G so I figure it would exceed 40 but I'm not going to try and find out!

looks great...all of em

dang, I wish I wouldn't have clicked on this thread.
Now I gotta find me one.
sigh....well, it's only money :)

According to the serial number table I have they made 569 of the G models with the 8N hood. I'm always amazed how many are still running around with such a low production volume. When I went to the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association (CAMA) show last fall, there was a Worthington G stored behind one of the buildings in pretty rough condition. Hopefully someone will fix it up at some point.
