8N Spark Issue

Been working on a tractor for the neighbor, this thing will start RIGHT off, run about 10 seconds, and die. Won't start again, period. 3 or 4 hours later, same thing, sometimes.

It has a 12 volt conversion, but they did a very nice / correct job of it.

I am assuming that the condenser must be bad right?

Question is, what and were do I find it? This is one of those front mount SOB's, and there is an alternator RIGHT in my way, so that will have to come off. Would like to have the condenser here in my hand before I tear into it, just so that I can get it done in one sitting so to say.

Anyone have any words of wisdom?

The condenser is in the top of the dist.the dist of coarse comes out on the left side of the tractor looking from the rear.

Alt doesn't need to some of. It can be a bit tricky, but just unbolt the 2 bolts holding the dist. on, disconnect the wire at the top of the coil, and if you want to make it easier getting it off, pop the wire of the coil and take the coil off. And to make it even more easy, snap those 2 bands holding the cap on and take the cap and rotor off. Getting it back in will be another story. I usually take it off and put it in in 1 piece, without taking anything else off.

If you are assuming condenser, we can quit now.

Its at the bottom of a long long list.

If it was open, after points burned it would never restart.

To fail short, usually requires heat.. Its not running long enough for that.

Id be looking at fuel starvation.. But then, if you had done the best first check, spark, we could have skipped this. :)

You'll have to take the dist off to change the condenser, but that's where it is in the dist. It's a ton easier to do if the hood n doglegs are off. :p While you have it off, put in new points too. Dunno why the pics are sideways. Some guys say take it out through the left side, some say the other side. I love the front mounts, gives me a good challenge every now and then.
