Oil Filler Cap Blew Off

I was brush hogging my field today when the oil filler tube and oil dip stick both blew off the motor of my early model 8n. I immediately shut it off and let it sit a minute....then brought it up to the house. It seemed totally fine after that. Why would this happen and is it a major problem?

Thanks

Sounds like crankcase vent might be clogged?

To be honest...I'm not sure what I would be looking for in the filler tube. I don't know what "excessive blowby" looks like. I haven't ever had any oil coming out of the filler tube. I did spray the filler tube filter out today with brake cleaner, as it was black and greasy.

Is the oil filler filter the crank case vent or is there another vent on this thing that I should be looking to clear?

If brake cleaner, which is designed to evaporate quickly, doesn't work to clean the vent, what do others use?

Im also assuming that if that was the issue, that it has been resolved on its own and won't happen again?

Ben,Did it scare ya when it went BOOM and the oil fill cap- was launched? LOL You might want to look over the two valve lifter covers and make sure they are not bent or pouched out.

Definitely made me jump.

I removed the vent from the tractor when I sprayed it....I didn't let it sit for 100 years after I did it though....so how is one supposed to clean these?

So how is one supposed to clean these?
Well after that back blast yours should be fairly clean.The time to clean is during a oil change after pulling the drain plug.

Swieh in a container with a cup or two of good ole 10% ethanol gasoline--slang it out and
let it dry
