8N steering problems

The Ford 8N just stopped turning left. If you turn the wheel to the right, it will move the wheels, but if you turn it left the wheel spins very free. It spins up out of the steering shaft probably an inch or 2 and then locks up. After some reading on here, I am thinking one of the 2 thrust bearings on the steering shaft. Am I correct or is it something else?

I am hoping to find time this week to tear into it.

Thanks,
Wayne

Had same exact problems with my steering last week. Tore into steering box both bearings where shot.. stuck two new bearings in and so far so good.. Steers better than it did when it was new.

i had problems with my 8n being hard to turn left . the steering wheel was not moving up and down though .i replaced the bearing the sector bushings but it didnt help a bit .i took it apart 3 times to check that i had everything where it belonged , i ended up buying a new steering box from this host now it works perfectly. i hope yours is as simple as the bearings .

greed.. you likely at least lost the top bearing. once you will get it apart you will see if there are any other casualties.

So it looks like Part Number: 8N3505 will at least be what I need. I may go on and order that to have on hand for when I tear into it.

Thanks for the help!
