Quick Hitch for a 2N

What category quick hitch do I need for my Ford 2N. I'm looking for an easier way to put on and take off my rearr blade which is an older style and quite heavy.

" my rearr blade which is an older style and quite heavy."

Yea, so is mine. As is my double bottom plow, bushhog. disc, etc.

Unless you have all new implements, you will find that the quick hitch won't fit a lot of the old ones.

I store everything on level ground on blocks/pallets and make arms from 2x4's to hold up some of the implements & don't have a problem hooking them up. Back straight up to it & hook it up, left arm first.

Except for the phd. That's a PITA.

For a PHD (post hole digger) it sometimes helps to dig a partial hole and leave it stored that way in the hole. You can also hang it from a tree limb or some such "Sky hook" for storage. Otherwise, they are a heap or he**.

I have one of those Speeco-style quick hitches that Harbor Freight practically gives away. it would only fit one or two of my implements, and the rest would have taken major changes to fit. I've lent to to a couple of friends since, telling them it could be theirs for a very reasonable price if they liked it, but it always comes back.

I've used this style in the past. It won't work on all my implements. Had to lengthen the pins on my york rake. Everything has to be sized just right and that's not the case with old implements. Comes in handy to move stuff out to the field like this non 3pt homemade spiketooth drag.

Whut he said... You will need a longer top link by about 2"... Its worked on every thang I have hooked it up two... Agri-supply NC has the best deal...

I have never talked to anyone that was satisfied with those 3 point quick hitch set ups... I know were one is the guy told me I could have that was enuff for me to run from it... I picked up a pat's and installed it on his bota he's happy...

wsmm........there are several 3-point category hitches. Cat-0 (wimpy big box tractor wanna bees), Cat-1 (what yer 2N, 9N, 8N, NAA came with), Cat-2 (50hp dual rear wheels), cat-3 (4-wheel drive), cat-4 (dual everythang) that takes 1-acre to turn around in.......HTH, the amazed Dell

Dell,
If you're talking Fords 50 hp is convertable cat 1-2.
Generally single rears unless you have some need for increased flotation.
Straight cat 2 was 60+ hp. Also usually singled out.

Cat 2 60+ hp 5000

ya, the Pat's ones are the way to go.
I've had a set for a long time...when I trade the tractor..the Pat's stay with me. Been on lots of tractors.

HOBO, I know you have other brands too. Those Pat's also work great converting a Farmall FastHitch to pick up 3-point stuff. Make yer prongs, put a Pat's on the end...done.

To the original poster, WSMM, ......sit there a minute and look at that ol implement....with a lift and those 2 big rear tires that roll...ya shouldn't be lifting or straining anything.
hint..hook lowest pin first..then the lift can raise/lower the other...and rolling the tires will move the other pin fore/aft.

Hobo,

I ordered one of Pat's quick hitch sets. I called him on the phone to ask a question. In his pics they are only shown on the lift arms. I asked him if there was room to use the stabilizer bars on them. He said it would work.

Do you know if this is true? Can regular stabilizer bars be used with them?

Hobo recommended these in a previous post

Don't go with the farm store knock-off brand though.
I bought a set of them off CraigsList and found out they won't
fit the Ford lift arms on any of my tractors. 9N through 960.
The lift arms were too rounded for them to tighten against.

This is the set I had. They went back on CraigsList and sold
quickly to a JD guy. They did work on his tractor.

Category one.
I have one like Kirk posted.
As others have said, only works on some implements.
I also found it much more handy on a tractor with live
hydraulics. I don't use it on my N's anymore.

I never gave the sway-bars a thought till you brought it up it may be a deal killer.

1) they extend the lift arms 4"
2) they are aligned by the side bolts (see Royse pix) Pats uses two long 3/8" bolts on each side (universal bolts fitz all).

1) you would need those adjustable aftermarket brackets for the sway bars on the tractor end.

2) You would need to taylor fit the alignment bolts till you found the right length so they would not interfere with the sway bars...

That said I don't see why they would not fit a N ...BUT... it may be a issue using stock type sway bars... I have got use to the Kubota set up and glade they did not use Fords better idea... Pat's may not be a good fit for a N :( no matter what they say at Pat's.... I am gonna balk at what they said if they did not fill in the blanks like I have... They could supply a longer pin were that goes thru the lift arm ball long enuff you could use the original arm in the same place were they original fit... Its very doable but would be a custom fit... Run that by them ask for a money back guarantee if its not a plug and play retro-fit... You can tell'em I said so if they differ tell'em to bring it on I don't plan to go anywhere soon... I have ate crow it ain't as bad as folks think it can be...

Sounds like a project for TOH to come up with a better replacment for the original sway-bar set up :D

I can't speak for Pats, only the ones I had.
They bolted onto the outside of the lift arm through the ball.
They did not slip over the end.
Then, as you said, they were aligned using the bolts.
Problem was the alignment bolts missed the lift arm.
They had nothing to work against.
I figured I could make an adapter but then decided I didn't need
them that bad. They were nearly new and in the box so I sold them.

I never gave a thought to the stabilizer bars either.
They won't work with my "box" type quick hitch unless I
wanted to replace the 3pt pins that came with it.

good post
had some parts in the shop, so did a mock-up.
looks like they will work. I left off the wave washer, the swaybar will do.

issues, as you said, need longer sway bars. I would get me a standard flat bar, cut 8" out of the middle and weld a turnbuckle in the[i:c9009283fb] middle[/i:c9009283fb] of it. (like they should be :) )

second issue, the one size fits all adjusting studs are long, after mounting them, if I only had one tractor, I'd cut em off flush with the nuts.

Your pin idea is good. You can see in the pic that Pat's already did it on the inside for their optional 'set width' bar.
Make it longer on the outside too.
(me being cheap, I might try your idea by just using a long hitchpin there with some holes drilled in it.)

It may be the angle of the dangle may be not as aggressive as the arms on my Botal... The arms on my Bota are tuned in allot... Good luck with it... I made about 30 of those washers so I could equip all my implements...
