OT: asparaguss / roundup

have a few asparagus beds overrun with lots of weeds. wondererd for a few years if I could just roundup them before the sprots came out. was always afraid of killing the asparagus.

then I met up with an old neighbor. he put in 3000 plants when we still lived next door as some retirement income. find out that is exactly what he does sprays roundup early season. took his word for it and got the sprayer out.

then covered it all with a thin mulch. so far so good easiest picking we've ever had.

probably old news to some here. I say I would rather hear something twice then not at all. (good news at least)

I fight asparagus weeds every year, so I appreciate your post. Did you spray Roundup before anything (weeds, grass, etc.) emerged or after the weeds started to show green? In other words, spray bare soil or unwanted vegetation? Dumb question, perhaps, but I don't want to take chances.

not dumb at all. have to hit that small window when weeds are green and growing but asparagus is not visible. at all! roundup works on the exposed plant not in the soil.

I'd roundup the asparagus AFTER it comes up then plant something good in there like bacon seed!

Though I like asparagus, I'd love some of that bacon seed.

Where do you get it?

" Where do you get it?"

I've been trying to grow doughnuts for years by planting Cheerios. I think I'm too far south for them to germinate..... ;)

Donuts!

You can grow those!?

I love donuts!

I'm going to google donut seeds.

I always rototilled early in the year to kill weeds the head of the root should be 12 inches under ground. After a month of cutting I let it go to seed.
