On Facebook a local man was asking what the going rate was for bush hogging is .

I see too many factors for a general per hour price ?

s with everything in life, there are always variables. But there is also a norm.

Bushogging what? These jobs range from
cutting open pasture to places that are
junkyards with 10 years of brush growing
thru them. I don't think I would mow
pasture for less than 50 an hour, about
10 an hour for fuel, 20 for my time and
another 20 towards wear and maintenance.
There's many places I wouldn't mow at
three times that price due to unknowns,
tire damage etc

$50 per hour down this way for typical 5 or 6 footer. If he is in a rural area have him try calling local city hall or real estate office. Both should know somebody that cuts. I get referrals from both.

Near me about $50/hr with a one or two hour minimum.
The minimum covers transportation to and from the site.

Hours billed includes the time for repairs of damage caused
by items the land owner was supposed to have cleared.
An hour clearing barbed wire from the mower for example.

I don't think you could price per acre.
You'd make out like a bandit on one acre of 12 inch grass.
One acre of shrubs, 6 ft grass or brush would eat your profits.
Not to mention the aforementioned repair bills.

With my 6 footer I charge 50 an hour from home to home 2 hour minimum. I've done a few places that I maybe should have charged more for.

If you call your local extension office or dig around on the ol google machine, they should have a handout for projected custom rates for your state. This will give you
a rough starting point; of course the actual price charged may vary a little depending on the circumstances at hand.

i get 50 too but thats for the jubilee which is about the size of a N [ 5 foot brush hog, 6 foot finish mower] a bigger tractor is going to be more expensive, and ive had enough bad experiences that these days i wont mow any field that i havent walked bare, the cost of fixing machinery and even tires that hit something in a field where the owner swears there is nothing in it to hit, is just too expensive, if thats the case i make it clear to the owner that all repair cost is on him, if i hit something like an old well, fence pipe ect

All good points in this thread. I'm not sure what the going rate is here, I'd imagine about $50 as well. I've done a few jobs hogging a field and I'm going to keep what you all said in mind in future job bids. Thanks.

After you do it for awhile and get lucky enough to have repeat customers it is not so bad. The new projects are rough on equipment, even after walking over the area. When vegetation is 6 foot tall it is easy to miss a pipe, rock, stump hole, small compressed gas cylinder, etc.
