Sherman Transmission Questions

I currently have s 1952 8N with the standard transmission. I have an opportunity to purchase a 47 9n with a blown motor but it has a Sherman
combo transmission. I want to place the Sherman into my 8N but not sure of compatibility and install. What are my options? Any advice or help
would be much appreciated.

Go to John Smith's web site which has a section dedicated to auxiliary/add-on transmissions.

here is the link. Just copy and paste it into the browser:

We just put in a Sherman Step-Down with cable shift transmission into our 8n and John, other members, and previous forums was a big help :)

They are asking $1000 for it but I think I can pick up the 9n for 600-700.. Anymore than that I think I'll pass. The owner just put a lot of parts into the tractor before it blew the motor. Newer rear tires, new rear rims, new carb, new radiator, new alternator, new battery., recent tune up.

I believe some of the early model 9N's had straight cut gears on the input shaft . At some point they switched to helical cut gears in the 9N . Straight cut gears will not work on an 8N .

On the bright side , if for some reason the 9N has a Sherman with straight cut gears and you could not use it , somebody would pay big bucks for it .

$500 for newer rear tires that come with rims is a good deal. A Sherman combo for $500 is fair enough. New rear rims will be a lot of $$$.

Go for it.
