Can't get the NAA clutch to adjust right. Don't have enough pedal throw to disengage the clutch, adjusting it tighter looks the pedal on the linkages.

Re-split the tractor this afternoon to take another good look. Here's details:

Linkages and cross shafts are tight. No play.

Throw out bearing is almost at end of the input shaft at full pedal throw. Doesn't have room to move more, tells me fork, shaft and linkages are ok.

Release bearing sits about 1/2 inch from contact with pressure plate fingers. Seems like release fingers are really low inside housing. Had to compress quite a bit to install the pressure plate.

Clutch disk is installed the right direction.

Everything is new, I purchased a complete clutch kit. Part numbers for the 8N and the NAA are the same for A 9 inch clutch. They both show two slightly different numbers but the NH website doesn't specify the differences.

When I took it apart it had flat washers under the PP. I'd rather find the problem than goober a fix.

HELP!!! Anyone see anything I'm missing? Is it possible the flywheel has been machined too much? I can't find any specs on how thick it's supposed to be.

Another question.... Can the fingers be adjusted to set them out more?

Any ideas appreciated muchly. TIA.

Mdparrott,Remove and check the bolt #2 in the throw out bearing fork #1 for a worn place also the cross shaft hole.I have seen a worn shaft and bolt cause that problem even if it looks tight. Also check the clutch release arm where it attaches to the cross shaft for worn parts.

i have a 53jub and the same exact with a rebuild tranny the #2 bolt they are talking a bout mine is a pin that is flared on both ends i have to pull it aprt again to ggrind or cut it off. if your is a bolt you can lift off the sterring

The external linkage for an NAA is the same as an 8N. Look at the arm attached to the clutch shaft. See part 8N7511B-Years-1948-58-Arm-Clutch-Release-Shaft. It has been known to split across the bottom side. The split may not be visible until you look under it. Hold the clutch pedal down and look. When you release the clutch the crack can close.
About 40 years ago the little bugger cost me all new clutch parts and breaking the tractor in half 3 times before I found out the problem.

Will definitely check that. I did replace the pin with a new one, even cotter pinned the bottom. Didn't notice any play but will check again.

As usual, you guys rock. I found a lot of slop in the shifter fork and release shaft that got by me when I put it together. Fork appears that it may be bent also.

New fork and shaft on order. Thanks again for the input.

(quoted from post at 05:18:22 04/25/16) where did you order the new fork and shaft and how much

Ordered them from Just 8N's. $20 for the fork, $15 for the shaft. Our host didn't have them when I checked.
