Went out this morning to get some more mowing done and noticed the not-bush-hog was flopping around a bit. Stopped right away and did an inspection and found that one side of the yoke of an upper lift arm was snapped clean off. Looking at the break it is pretty evident that the damage was done a while back as the top portion of the crack, roughly 2/3 of it, is dark and rusty. There's enough paint layered on the tractor that I didn't see the crack for what it was.

More annoying is that the casting shows some malformations; a "worm hole" that goes in to the arm a ways. Should I break out the welder and repair or replace the whole arm? Repair so I can use it today and order the part?

t is steel, so you can weld it normally, as I have & ran for decades. Scab a piece onto it for extra strength if you like.

Yes, it is cast steel so can easily be
welded.
I would do that to get the job done.
Meanwhile, look for a used one and change it
out when you can.
Nothing makes a tractor look more farmerized
and shoddy than a poorly made repair like
that.

Good example of a poor job. I'm a bit surprised it held.

Not uncommon, which is why Ford redesigned the upper lift arms in 52 and again in 55.

Most (I did not say all.) upper lift arm damage was done by driving too fast over uneven terrain with a heavy implement raised on the lift.

Such results should be obvious.
