Would love some help here this is driving me crazy. When I bought my 44 the lift worked fine except it dropped when turned off but one day it wouldn't raise so I replaced lift cylinder and piston also replaced control valve. It works now but I only have raise up, down or if I center the control handle it stops where it's at. Basically it has no position control. Hope this makes sense any help would be great

9N, 2N do not have position control. Only
draft control.
Position control came out on the 8Ns and was
a significant upgrade.
If you want position control, board member
Zane makes a device called the Zane Thang.
It is an ingenious device and we'll worth
the money.

I might not have explained it well. Basically before it stopped working I could set the lift lever to a position and the lift would match that position. Move half way and lift moves half way up . granted it was broke a while before it was fixed but I'm fairly certain that's how it operates. How does your 2n's lift control operate?
Thanks for the info btw

2n have draft only Hyds, 8n+ have position control. You can get a bolt on feedback big to simulate position control

You have draft control.
It wasn't designed to be set at any particular position.
What draft control does is say, when you are plowing your garden. The top link is pushing against the tractor. Thete is a big spring there and linkage that goes into the rear end. That linkage senses how much push is being applied and will automatically adjust the height of the plow depending on where you have the lift handle set. The harder the plow is to pull, the harder it pushes on that spring. So you don't Bog the engine down or spin the tires.
The 8Ns have both position and draft control.
Position control allows you to set an exact height of say a back blade and it will stay there. 8Ns have an extra little lever under your right thigh that you don't have.
If yours was allowing you to set a particular height it wasn't working right. Now it is - sad but true.

PS
Ford used that exact same little lever under your thigh from 1948 all the way through 1975.
In 1976 they upgraded the lift again and had 2 lift handles there. So you could have draft control, position control and draft WITH position control. And if you can figure out a need for that function or how it works you're a smarter man than me :)

Thanks for the info guess it was broke longer than I thought. I'm actually picking up a 52 8n next week really looking forward to owning a true redbelly.
