What Are These And How Were They Mounted?

These look pretty mean...the ride might have been a little bumpy but I bet you didn't lose traction very often!

We came across these on craigslist while looking for front wheel weights for our 8N. Looks like these were for a 9n or 2n.

The ad says "Two steel wheels bolt alongside rubber tires and allow you to drive on the road. 48-inches high, 6 lug, 24 3/8-inch bolt circle."

and so wanted to ask if this is true because we couldn't see how adding steel cleats along side your rubber tires would allow you to drive on the road...would think that if it had these mount to the tractor first, then there would have been a rubber tire that mounted to it so the steel cleats didn't slip on or tear up the road.

I believe the one you have in the photo and the one in the ad are different. The ad ones bolt to the center and not
the rim. I have seen them before and they are a couple inches shorter then the tire so you could use them on a road.
They were made so that when you sunk in the mud they would aid to help regain some traction to "paddle" your way out.

Traction assist paddles. Got a pair like those leaning on a tree in my yard. They work really well in a hard pull situation. They normally ride a few inches above ground when going is easy. As the wheels spin and start to dig in the paddles start to contact the ground giving a wider and more positive bite. You can ride down a concrete road in high gear and they never touch the surface.

Hi, if you go back up through the comments you will see that crawlerjohn sent us the link to where he found it through google. From there we clicked on the link, saved the pic to our pc, and uploaded the picture here on yesterdays tractors.

We also went back and clicked on the link and found the picture came from you who uploaded it here on yesterdaystractors back in 9-9-2012

Here's the link to your comment and this picture you uploaded:

'bout 3 years back I was looking for info on mounting a set of these just like the pic where they're outboard of the rubber. No one knew anything about this on another tractor forum. The set I picked up were stagger mounted so it didn't work as cleanly. I used a reversed 9N center to get it to mount more like a true dual.

Problem I had was an 11.2 x 28 wouldn't keep the cleats off the ground! those paddles sure tear up the wife's yard....

Thanks for the pic - maybe they'll give me needed ballast on my 3400's 13.6x28s.

Knl I have scrapped a couple of fords with them on them. They were mounted on the outside of the
ribber tire like the picture shows.
